Tensile Test
In MTA we were to complete a tensile test of a steel alloy. We were to use some technical on reading micrometers. Using what we had learned in physics we had to find the breaking point and graph the stress and strain.
First we mounted the specimen, micrometers and anvils in the top Clovis using the pin. Then move the bottom Clovis up slowly by pumping the handle slowly. When you begin applying pressure, both the red needle and the black needle will start to move up. The black needle represents the current pressure on the specimen. The red needle represents the maximum pressure the specimen has had exerted on it. After pumping and taking measurements every 200 psi. The specimen broke at 3000 psi.
After gathering data we had to finish filling out the chart and then graph the data.
