Mentor Program
The mentor program is a way for the students at MTA to get a feel for the real world and to associated what the do at MTA and how it is used in everyday business. I would meet with a Business partner, or a volunteer who would give up an half hour a month to sit down and discuss whatever the topic of the month may be. In November it was time management and in December it was team work. The topics of the month went with what we were doing. In December we had done teams training and had to rely on many people to participate. My mentor said he had to rely on his guys to get to the jobs so they don't fall behind and take a loss.
My mentor sold orthopedic spinal screws and had to observe surgeries when they we being implanted. He and I had talk a bit on college and furthering education. I'm going into the medical field and he advised me to not open a private practice. Not only that but he said its nice when you get to choose who you work with. He works with some of his long time friends and they get along great and pick up each others schedule when they have some personal plans.
English Skills
-Write, speak, and visually represent to develop self-awareness and insight (e.g., diary, journal writing, portfolio self-assessment).
-Use resources to determine word meanings, pronunciations, and word etymologies (e.g., context, print and electronic dictionaries, thesauruses, glossaries, and others).
Justification: During my mentor meetings I discussed exclusively on academics due to how the topics were arranged. My mentor helped my team on our alloy project by giving us information about the screws and allowing to have one for our presentation.
